Navigating the AWS Management Console
The AWS Management Console is the primary interface for managing AWS services. This lecture covers the key features of the console and provides tips to help you navigate it effectively.
1. AWS Region Selector
- Location: Top-right corner of the console.
- Purpose: Allows you to choose the AWS region where your resources are hosted.
- Best Practice:
- Select a region geographically closest to you for reduced latency.
- Example: If you're in Europe, choose EU-West-1 (Ireland); if you're in Africa, choose af-south-1 (Cape Town).
- You can use any region regardless of your physical location, but choosing a nearby region optimizes performance.
2. Console Overview
Home Page Features:
- Recently Visited Services:
- Lists services you've accessed recently. It may initially be empty if you're new to AWS.
- Additional Information:
- AWS health status.
- Cost and usage reports.
- Tutorials for building solutions.
Note: The AWS Console UI may evolve over time, so if the layout changes drastically, the instructor will update the material.
3. Accessing AWS Services
There are two main ways to navigate AWS services:
