Registering a Domain in AWS Route 53
Now that we understand how DNS works, let’s explore Amazon Route 53 by registering a domain. This process allows us to purchase and manage domain names directly in AWS, making it easier to configure DNS settings and integrate with AWS services.
Step 1: Accessing Route 53
- Log in to AWS Console and navigate to Route 53.
- On the left sidebar, click “Register Domain” to begin the registration process.
- If AWS prompts you to use the new console experience, enable it.
Step 2: Choosing a Domain Name
- Enter your desired domain name in the search box.
- AWS will check if the domain is available for registration.
- If available, the system will display the pricing (e.g.,
$13/year).
- Add the domain to your cart and proceed to checkout.
💡 Tip: Choose a unique domain name that aligns with your project or business needs.
Step 3: Configuring Registration Settings
1. Choose Domain Duration & Auto-Renewal
- Select the registration duration (default: 1 year).
- Enable Auto-Renew if you want to keep the domain after a year.
- ✅ Recommended for long-term projects.
- ❌ Disable if you only need the domain for a short period (e.g., course practice).
