AWS Storage Gateway: Understanding the Different Types

AWS Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage service that enables on-premises applications to integrate seamlessly with AWS cloud storage. There are four types of gateways, each designed for specific use cases.

1. Amazon S3 File Gateway

🔹 Use Case: Provides a local cache for frequently accessed Amazon S3 data on-premises.

🔹 Key Features:

• Caches recently used data locally to improve performance.

2. Amazon FSx File Gateway

🔹 Use Case: Provides a local cache for Amazon FSx for Windows File Server.

🔹 Key Features:

• Similar to S3 File Gateway, but specifically for FSx Windows File Server.
• Helps reduce latency for accessing Windows-based file shares.
• Can be deployed on-premises or in AWS (via hardware appliance or EC2).

✅ Best for: Organizations running Windows file shares that need on-premises caching.
